Celebrating Thanksgiving Blessings as a Testimony to the Gospel

Celebrating Thanksgiving Blessings as a Testimony to the Gospel

Howie Levin
Convener of OneHeartDC

This Thanksgiving 2015, we want to imitate John the Baptist who “came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe” (John 1:7). Feeding those in need and sharing the gospel message will be our testimony to the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. John spoke about Jesus and we want to display Him brighter in the DMV so that everyone will know He is “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6) and the only way to God the Father.

Churches across the DMV have been serving neighbors in need for a long time, but the community has had limited awareness of the magnitude of these blessings. Meeting real needs in a significant ways in Jesus’s name focuses glory on Him and also helps people see the Church as a valuable asset in the community.

So, our important request is that if your church is serving meals or the constituent parts to make meals, an authorized representative would report the fruit of your work at this link by November 30th:

We will provide a summary to you so we all might celebrate what the Lord has done through us. This is not to claim any human credit or flaunt our service, but rather to use the OneHeartDC movement to display Christ to our community. This will benefit our congregations as they begin to see the big God we serve.

We are trusting God to use our collaboration in ways that we have not yet begun to apprehend. Let’s ‘celebrate’ and ‘accelerate’ the Good News of Jesus Christ together because we all know we are “better together”! Will you please be a part of this?

PS: On Thanksgiving 2014, over two dozen churches celebrated how God used them to provide meals for over 125,000 people, equivalent to over three times the capacity of the Washington Nationals baseball park. Approximately a third of those most critically in need in Metro Washington were served. See story HERE:
